Brainspotting
The motto of brainspotting according to its developer David Grand is, “where you look affects how you feel.” Brainspotting is a technique that came from and has similarities with EMDR. It uses eye positions to help clients access and release experiences and symptoms stored in the unconscious. The client fixes her or his attention on the eye position that corresponds to the
“brainspot” where the information is stored. The stored information is then experienced mindfully and processed until no distress is felt.
The processing of this information can be eased by accessing what are called “resources." These are brainspots that correspond to positive feelings such as strength, love, safety, courage, etc. Brainspotting includes other techniques that can help make the processing of distressing experiences more gradual and less difficult.
Not only has brainspotting has been used successfully with a variety emotional issues. It has also been used to enhance creativity and sports performance.
